This book really let's you know how it was in the midst of the Death Row project. I was really amazed on the life of McKinley Malik Lee, Jr. Buy the book. You will not be disappointed . I hear he is recording great music now (gospel rap) that should be released at the beginning of the year (2000). Wouldn't it be awesome to hear somthing with him and Snoop Doggy Dogg? What a waste of talent.
By A Customer
I am a white female who is into all kinds of music and I found Snoop and 2Pac, both to be very talented people. I felt that reading this book would help me understand the lifestyles of a gangsta rapper. I am afraid all I found was a complete waste of life and talent. Death Row Records was appropriately named. All involved seemed to have encountered death at some time. It's really a shame that people these days are so quick to pick up a gun and use it without regard for human life. Hind sight is indeed 20/20. Nothing will bring Tupac or Biggie Smalls back and still the guns and drugs are out there every day, stealing away the great talents from our world. People wake up. Death isn't the answer to Life, it is only the end of an era.

Evil has always been more fun...
By Anthony Bates
Some of the best AD&D campaigns I've run or played in have been 'evil' in nature and as a long time fan of the Forgotten Realms I was looking forward to reading this book. While I wasn't impressed by the content, neither was I disappointed.

After the introduction, where you are treated to a brief examination of the nature of evil (it's pretty simplistic, but sets the tone well), the book breaks down into seven chapters:
1: Races
2: Tools of Evil
3: Prestige Classes
4: Evil Organisations
5: Evil Places
6: Encounters with Evil
7: Champions of Evil

Chapter one details three evil races: Draegloth, Extaminaar and Krinth. Nothing too flash here. Personally I thought the Krinth were a silly idea and the Extaminaar only slightly less so. Draegloth were kinda cool. I'm not quite sure why the designers decided to use relatively new creatures for this section when you have 3 monster manuals (at the time of this book's publishing) literally packed with hundreds of evil creatures that could have fitted the bill nicely.

Chapter two examines the tools of evil (i.e. magic items, spells and feats). Some of the spells are interesting, but most are obviously reworked from existing spells. The best part about this chapter are the magic items - some very cool toys for evil boys (or girls) are contained here. The feats are...well feats. The game is sooo loaded with feats I really didn't think that additional evil specific feats were necessary.

Chapter three covers the new prestige classes, which with the exception of the Vengence Knight are all good classes and depending on the nature of the campaign all should find a role. My personal favourite (in concept if not game mechanics) was the Thayan Gladiator with the Nightmask Deathbringer running a close second. The Shade Hunter PC was bland and without inspiration (as a side note - the art accompanying the Vengenance Knight was awful). The remaining two - Black Blood Cultist & Justice of Weald & Woe - would be good for solo games, but I can't see them meshing well in a group setting.

Chapter four covers evil organisations and its inclusion is a complete mystery to me. There are several refernces in this book to another book called Lords of Darkness (another FR source book) - which covers in full detail the evil organisations of Faerûn! This chapter is merely a repeat of the information found in Lords of Darkness and a complete waste of space. The twenty pages devoted to this chapter could have been used for any number of other subjects, its not even like the material in CoR is updated from LoD - really disappointing (This alone caused me to downgrade the rating from 4 to 3 stars).

Chapter five examines evil places and delves into the concept of Evil Nodes, which were first covered in the Underdark Sourcebook. I haven't read the Underdark book, but being a fan of the old TSR 'Birthright' campaign world the concept of magical nodes is not new and something that I incorporate in all my campaigns - which I suspect is a default setting for most GM's. Anyway, the rules presented for determining these evil nodes are clear and easy to follow. The chapter then concludes with several evil locations and adventure seeds.

Chapter six is the smallest chapter and details very briefly some considerations that need to be taken into account when planning an evil game - especially how 'evil' you want to go. The chapeter then looks at some notable evil NPC's, giving full game stats and limited histories - there are a couple of really interesting ones such as Damien Krale and Daren Timbide, but the others are all a bit ho-hum.

Finally there is chapter seven: Champions of Evil - which seems to be a rehash of the previous chapter! Granted that the chapter seven baddies are really bad! The first is 32nd Level! Which is kind of silly. If I'm going to have someone that powerful in one of my campaigns, then I don't bother putting stats to him/her (especially since this particular baddie takes nearly two pages to cover all his stats!); then there's Dendar the Night Serpernt with his 1,193 HP! Why bother?

I can see it now - Thom the Unspeakably Violent (a powerful barbarian in one of my campaigns launches a series of furious attacks and inflicts his maximum damage of 88 HP. Cool. Only 1,105 to go. Like I said, silly.

But I digress. On the positive side, chapter seven does explain how these powerful baddies can be used in particular campaigns and what there agenda's and machinations are (reinforcing my point that there was no need to stat them out).

In conclusion, a useful book that is an excellent resource for a GM thinking about his first evil game or campaign and even the most jaded, cynical GM (much like me) will find the odd gem within it's pages.

Enjoy.

Great player resource.
By David N. Moore
Two things that I bought this book for.
Craven - +1 damage per hit dice on sneak attacks feat
Splitting arrors- enchantment which can double your damage output on your bow or crossbow.

There's a lot of other stuff in here, but those are definitely some of the most powerful options you get from this book.

We have a house-rule in our group that one of the players needs to actually own the book to use the abilities from it, even if the book isn't present during games. I highly reccomend this rule to anybody playing the game. It's not fair to the company that creates it or the sellers who are keeping the market for 3.5 stuff alive after the gutting that it took when 4.0 came out.

Fast & nice
By Pablo Martínez
It is a worthy succesor on 3.0's Book of Evil.

It is not core though so only buy if needed.

Would recommend it to average players that value more the role than the dice throwing.

By KCP573
This box set of the legends of drizzt is a fantastic continuation of the halflings Gem. In the first one you see what happens to your favorite characters and experience the magic of "forrbidden realms" dwarves, their cities and and more... The dark elves are on the rise withe the second book in tis collection and to me it was truly fasinating to see how the dark elves of ra salvatore behave and fight.. The third book in this fantastic box set shows exactly how amazing salvatores mind is... There are many other things I could drabble on about but instead I'll just let you read the books :-)

Fast, Full, and Scary
By Amazon Customer
Helter Skelter is the #1 best selling true crime book ever because of three things: It is the story of one of the highest profile murder cases in the world's history, even 30+ years after the fact, it is still an amazing and unique story, and finally, Vincent Bugliosi is a fabulous writer. Most books written by non-writers might tell a good story but not in a dramatic way that a true author otherwise might. Bugliosi has no problem doing that with his books.
I thought I had a pretty good idea of most everything that had happened during this whole ordeal that ended the era of "peace and love," but I didn't know the half of it. Bugliosi needs over 700 pages to vividly recount every second of what led up to the Manson murders and every detail of what was done to bring the killers to trial and put them away. This is without question the fastest and most intense 700 page book I've ever read (and I've read a few), and that can be credited to the sheer madness of this case and the brilliance of the deep-thinking, amazingly-talented prosecutor who closed the case and then wrote this book to tell everything about it.

RATING FOR THE KINDLE VERSION - DO NOT BUY FOR KINDLE!
By Awesomest
This book is really good, but I should have listened to the previous comment about the KINDLE VERSION being difficult to read. The footnotes are not accessible and where pictures should be it just says "can't put photo" or something. I bought this one week ago exactly and it will not let me return it. I wish I could return it and get the hard copy, it is really a good book but I do not enjoy reading it on the kindle because I feel like I am missing a lot and that is no fun.

What are you waiting for?
By KWatson
Great book. I can't believe I took so long to get around to buying it. It's not necessarily the type of book I'd read over and over, but I will definitely be lending it to friends to read. Just a very well written book and obviously a unique story. If you like Criminal Minds, Law and Order and those kind of shows you will love this book. Written from the prosecutor's perspective, there are details and explanations that are just...well, real.

Recommended.

I purchased the hard copy as recommend by another reader. Apparently the kindle version doesn't have the pictures that are in the hard copy. If that's the case (I can't be sure because I didn't order the kindle copy), I would HIGHLY recommend you purchase and read this one!

Spectacular Book
By Amazon Customer
I am a fan of the Drizzt series, they are some of the best books I have ever read. I highly recommended anyone who hasn't read the Crystal Shard pick it up immediately. Having said that it is no wonder I like this book and that I give it all 5 stars. It's great to see the many characters of Drizzt's world and a look at its many creatures. Warning! the book is full of spoilers! However, if you are like me and can't get your hand on certain books this can always be used to fill in what you couldn't find. It's a great book with outstanding art work and I highly recommend it to all Salvatore fans.

Absolutely Fan-tastic!
By Wren
You don't have to be a fan to love this book but it does help if you know something about the Drizzt universe. Some of the incidental characters are even drawn in with small bios. Some of the drawings, in my opinion, didn't reflect the image I got while reading the book but they were still amazing! Definitely a collector's item and one worth perusing. The quality and effort of creating this book are very evident and the work is spot on with their information. I've seen some "overview" books before that have false information in them or completely diverge from the original books. This one stayed true to the material throughout. It was fascinating and well worth the money I spent on it!

Great mechanics, limited mythology
By Matthew Arieta
One thing I like about the 3E core rulebooks is it seems like WotC play tested the hell out of them. Nearly everything is fairly well balanced. Many aspects have been simplified from the 2nd addition in a good way (though sometimes too much.) Overall, I really like 3E and consider it worth buying.
Enter supplemental materials like Deities & Demigods. Let's take a look:
Chapter 1: Deities in Your Game -- Here's an abbreviated list of the sections:
Monotheism, Dualism, The Nature of Divinity, Why Mortals Worship Deities, Why Deities Use Mortals, Building a Pantheon, etc.
For me, this was the strongest aspect of the book. First, it explains different types of pantheons -- one God, vs. multiple gods/goddesses. Then it addresses a very key point: Why do divinities and mortals need each other? What is the relationship? As a DM, this part really helped cement that important concept.
Chapter 2: Deities Defined
The next section is another winner: How to make your own pantheon. In the previous chapter, there are tips for formulating your pantheon conceptually. How many? What domains? This chapter leads right into an explanation of the mechanics used in the book. So, you can take your idea for a new pantheon, and put it into d20 game terms.
Chapter 3 and on through the rest of the book:
I've heard complaints that there are only four pantheons in this book, compared to dozens from previous editions. Let me take a stab at why. Do you have a 3rd edition character, say, 10th level? My 10th level gnome druid takes up four pages worth of character sheet. Each of the gods & goddesses in this book are around 30th level or higher! Their stats take up a LOT of room! Thus, we are only given the Greyhawk, Olympian, Pharaonic (Egyptian), and Asgardian (Norse) pantheons.
Pantheon Strengths:
1) Some GREAT art: Ehlonna, Aries, Athena, Pan, Heimdall, Sif (yay!), Thor, etc.
2) Fully detailed d20 stats for each deity.
3) Maps for some deity-related dwellings.
4) We are told the deities will work well with the up and coming Epic Rules.
Pantheon Weaknesses:
1) Some painfully BAD art: Aphrodite, Dionysus, Ptah (and he is so cool!), Loki (this one really hurt me, I'm a big Loki fan), etc.
2) Very limited information about the deities themselves. This, to me, is the major shortcoming on this book. The info for dogmas, clergy & temples, etc., are each a short paragraph only. What does this tell us? Perhaps the game designers went a little overboard being able to actually make legal d20 stats for the deities, and didn't think enough about fleshing them out. I would have loved more background, more rituals, and more mythology for each deity. Granted, if you want to put these deities in a brawl, you've certainly got the stats!
Overall:
The 3E Deities & Demigods book has some vital information -- namely, the first few chapters. DMs and players alike will enjoy learning more about the place of deities and mortals within a D&D world. The rules for making your own pantheon are also very cool. After that, we have many, many stat blocks (with fairly limited background) for insanely powerful NPCs. Personally, I'm a stat fanatic, and enjoyed pouring over them. If they had only added another few paragraphs for each deity's background, religious holidays, expectations for their clerics, etc. I'd have given Deities & Demigods 5 stars. As it stands, it only gets 4.

Divinity and More!
By Roger Robinson
While I haven't time for an in-depth review of Deities and Demigods, I would say that I think it's one of the finest products produced for the system yet. The two major arguments I've heard against the product here are:
1) Who needs stats for gods?
Fair enough, but it isn't as if this book is new to the D&D system. The idea goes back a very long way indeed and has been done more than once. I think once the Epic-Level Campaigns book is released this volume will seem more accessible as well as a more natural progression from the Player's Handbook. Indeed, it seems almost as if the third part of a trilogy was released before the second, but that in no way makes this any less of a fun, useful, and enjoyable romp. For those of you that see this as only a glorified Monster Manual, I say free up your imaginations!
2) It only details four pantheons.
True, but it covers them very well. I think this is preferable to having a mixed bag of gods that you can only really use if you play a truly worldly sort of campaign. My only real disappointment with the D&D/Greyhawk Pantheon was that I wanted much, much more of it than was offered. And I think if the biggest problem you have with a book is that you wanted it to be bigger, then you just have to do like I do...and pray for a Deities & Demigods II.
The book is simply excellent. It begins by describing topics such as the nature of divinity (how a deity became a deity, where their power stems from, etc.), how to create your own gods, your own pantheons and so forth. There is a list of divine abilities and divine feats for fleshing out deities you create...as well as explaining the powers of those listed within. But, enough of about the nuts and bolts, because we know what everyone's waiting for...the gods!
The D&D/Greyhawk Pantheon is a real plus for those of you who want a look at and description of the deities mentioned in the Player's Handbook. It also includes Tiamat and Bahamut (dragon deities), Lolth (Drow), and for some reason Kurtulmak (Kobold). The artwork is Fantastic and the stats given make perfect sense for truly far-reaching epic campaigns. As I said before...the only thing I want from this section of the book is MORE!
The remaining three pantheons are Olympian (Greek), Pharonic (Egyptian), and Asgardian (Norse) and each are detailed comprehensibly. There are of course a few players missing from the deck (such as Fenrir from the Asgardian section) but with an average of 20 gods per pantheon you'll have plenty of stuff to keep you occupied and drool over.
There are also original examples of monotheistic and dualistic faiths and a mystery cult. These are interesting to compare to the pantheons, especially as you're given details on creating your own, but I prefer the pantheon system as it adds more diversity.
The book also includes several monsters spread throughout (cyclops, faun, greater mummy, minions of set, valkyrie, etc.), a few prestige classes and a list of "new" Domains and spells.
My only hope is that this book will be followed up, much like the Monster Manual, with a sequel that will detail other pantheons (Celtic? Babylonian?) and include more D&D/Greyhawk gods such as those found in the Living Greyhawk Gazeteer.
Until then (assuming it ever happens) enjoy what is here. The seeds for a great deal of high-level fun, and low-level awe when Fharlanghn meets you on the crossroads at the beginning of your next adventure.
Oh, yes...and don't let anyone tell you otherwise: The artwork is far beyond "okay"...it is superb!

Not bad, but still incomplete.

Not bad. I've been playing D&D for about 14 years now, so I remember Legend's and Lore for the other editions. Compared to the previous editions, Deities and Demigods 3E is MUCH more thorough regarding each pantheon and limits itself quite well. This book does NOT attempt to give a cursory look at everything but does go into great detail on 4 pantheons and gives rules to create your own religions. Great Job!
Now the bad news: How often does your character actually try to brawl with a diety? Hopefully never, or very rarely. How often do your characters interact with a deities church? A lot more often than meeting the actual deity. There is almost NO detail on how each deities' religions are set-up. MAJOR PROBLEM. Even if the designers wanted to leave room for the DM to create a church, why flub on this crucial issue? For a top notch D&D religion book, check out the 2nd edition Forgotten Realms religion sourcebooks. Deities and Demigods 3E doesn't even come close to this standard. It merely demotes deities from a position of awe and true deific standings to uber-monsters you would meet on the 20th level of a dungeon. Planescape is much better in outlining how deities and characters should interact.

Winterheim (Dragonlance: Icewall Trilogy, Vol. 3)From Brand: Wizards of the Coast

Shrouded in ice, the stronghold of the ogres has stood for eons as an impregnable bastion of the Icereach. But now Strongwind Whalebone, king of the Highlanders, has been imprisoned in the ogre fortress. Outside its walls, a band of his compatriots plots his rescue. Within the fortress, ogre king Grimwar Bane faces royal treachery and desperate revolt.

It is time for the ogre king to decide if the greater threat lies outside Winterheim—or within.

In the third book of his epic trilogy, Douglas Niles weaves a tapestry of magic and adventure into a climax that will affect the destiny of all those who dwell in the cold land of the Icereach.

Niles keeps rolling
By Victor Hwang
Winterheim, the epic conclusion to Douglas Niles latest trilogy, maintains Niles reputation for consistently enjoyable, thorough and well-written fantasy novels. Throughout the trilogy, Niles has explored a previously untapped region of the Dragonlance world: Icereach.
This last book serves to tie together the fates of the very engaging main characters: Moreen Bayguard, Strongwind Whalebone, Bruni, and Grimwar Bane. This trilogy, and specifically this book, is refreshing from other fantasy titles in that, awe-inspiring magic and all-powerful characters are not to be found. Instead, every character is mortal with his or her own set of trials and tribulations. Every fight is a real struggle and every action comes with it's own emotional turmoil and consequences. For example, the supposed enemy of the novel, Grimwar, is torn by his own personal feelings towards the humans and his duty as the leader of the ogres, natural enemies of the humans.
The book moves along at a brisk clip; the plot nevers gets stale or bogged down, as the perspective of the narrative changes from character to character quite frequently.
The ending is relatively satisfying albeit a brief abrupt. Every character and his or her story ends in an appropriate manner. Overall, it is a peaceful conclusion to a dark and warlike age in Icereach. This book is heartily recommended to any fantasy fans.

On a side note, it would be helpful if you read the first two books in the trilogy before you read Winterheim. It is not necessary, but you would better understand the characters, setting and plot.

A worthy conlusion with some minor flaws.
By Hasta Katana
With Strongwind Whalebone imprisoned in Winterheim, the mountain fortress of the ogres, Moreen Bayguard and her people mount an attempt to save his life. The strongest aspect of "Winterheim" has to be the character development. Characters such as Bruni the large Arktos woman, Mouse the Arktos warrior, and even Grimwar Bane the ogre king grow. The relationship between Moreen and Kerrick evolves and even a certain elusive kender makes an appearance or two. There are also a few new characters added to the mix. While it's certainly not the greatest book, it does make a worthy conclusion to the series. I definitely enjoyed reading it, but I have to admit the ending kind of annoyed me. (A tad too convenient and sappy for my tastes.) Douglas Niles once again proves his writing prowess and I sincerely hope that this isn't the last of his Dragonlance novels.

Great ending to terrific trilogy
By Russell P. Horton
This is an excellent finish to a really entertaining trilogy. Fans of fantasty fiction who have no prior exposure to the Dragonlance world can still enjoy these books (the first two are The Messenger and The Golden Orb).
This book basically ends to tale of the characters introduced at the beginning of the trilogy. There are plenty of epic battles, narrow escapes, and character development. A couple of nagging questions (e.g. is Coraltop the kender real?) that are finally answered.
The only qualm I have with this book is that the ending seems a bit rushed and a little too convenient. But it is not at all unbelievable, and the epilogue is very nice.
Overall, a very good novel, but when taken in conjunction with the other parts of the trilogy, it is really excellent.

Irrestistible ... nothing about it is ordinary LOS ANGELES TIMES A delightful reading of large, splashy doings in the small pond of an endearingly lively, bossy, responsible, and much-loving lady KIRKUS REVIEWS Bess is so remarkable a character that I seem here to be reviewing not A WOMAN OF INDEPENDENT MEANS but the woman herself NEW YORK TIMES Thanks to Hailey's splendid mastery of plain English, Bess illuminates the life of others as well as her own in deft, articulate, cursive strokes that any love of language will find irresistible LOS ANGELES TIMES

From the Inside Flap
A woman coming of age early in the century had few choices... unless she had independent means. Bess Steed Garner inherits a legacy -- of wealth, determination, and desire. She loves one man with all her heart only to discover the price of such devotion. She struggles with the flaws of marriage and its irresistible rewards. She sets out to conquer high society and forces oil-rich Dallas to its knees. But her own daughter may break her heart... and the man she chooses may rob her of the one thing she prizes the most -- her manipulating, delightful, bossy, and believable independence. For Bess is a woman of independent means.

Classic...Timeless..Wonderful.
By momwith2kids
I just finished this book, of which I could not put down for a moment. It is an excellent read! I cried several times throughout the book. I was amazed by this woman, Bess. She was the obvious life-force behind her marriage and family. She always asked questions and made comments about life that were ahead of its time...classic...timeless! She was such a progressive thinker for her time.
The letters spanned from the beginning of the 20th century to the 1940s. Time and time again she surprised me with her observations and decisions: We should just do, instead of waiting for something to happen, since the future is unknown. She commented about philosophical concepts that many of us ponder today. Her thoughts on children-rearing were so refreshing too; that we shouldn?t lose ourselves in our children; that raising children doesn't necessarily mean one has to make it her sole occupation.
Her perception of life was so positive, even in the face of so many unbelievable tragedies. She treated death like an enemy, which forced her to live her life to the fullest. A very interesting, positive, way to look at things, especially in an age where a lot of us have become complacent about death. Her question about why society expects us to spend our lifetime of experiences with one person, is one that I'm sure many of us ask ourselves today! She sees the complexities of people and of life in general, which makes her so understanding, and so tolerant. Even her subtle way of introducing social change is brilliant, leaving a lasting impression. It was inspiring to read those letters, and reminded me of how important writing is...so much more thought goes into words when one writes them down. The written word can often be so much more powerful than words which are spoken.
It occurred to me that this book was written in 1978, which may explain why there's so much progressive thought here. However, history shows us that many women felt the way Bess felt. It was so thrilling for me to read these letters, imagining the setting of America in the 20s, 30s and 40s.
Most importantly though, I believed in this character. I felt for her deeply and her letters really moved me. Her life was astonishing...a wonderful read. I would recommend this book to every mother, daughter, grandmother...and every father, son and grandfather for that matter!

Mediocre, but not terrible.
By Christopher Ware
I think some people are having a knee jerk reaction to this book's sub-par quality. After having been treated to the near brilliance of Weis and Hickman for so many years, many readers are upset that this direct continuation of the storyline had such a drop in quality. The story is still enjoyable, but it is not presented in as eloquent a fashion as was the case in previous books.
Now, I don't know if Ms. Rabe has written any books before this, but it seems like a first book. A lot of the dialogue is awkward and there are places where the prose is very stilted. These kinds of shortcomings, however, do not call for one star or even two. I've read books that were much worse. Books with no plot, impenetrable prose, and even dialogue that sounded like the two people were having different conversations with each other at the same time. Essentially what I am saying is that, while the presentation of the story was lacking, it is still enjoyable, especially for Dragonlance fans.
This book continues the story where it left off at the end of Dragons of Summer Flame. We see old friends and meet new characters. The beginning of the book then skims over the next twenty years as the land changes with the withdrawal of the gods. I hope that there are other books in the series that flesh this period of time out, but it's not really necessary for the story that Ms. Rabe is telling here. And as far as the reviewers who complained about kenders and dwarves not behaving as they should, don't they think that different members of those races will have completely different personalities? I know humans do.
Anyway, if you're a fan of the Dragonlance saga, this is a must read for the continuing story. From what I have heard, if you jump straight to Weis & Hickman's War of Souls trilogy, you'll be missing out on a lot. Just don't go into this book expecting the same level of writing as those two and you should be okay.

Decline
By Richard Spurrier
So the decline of the Dragonlance Saga continues! After the highs of the Chronicles and the Legends, and the somewhat legendary "Legend of Huma", the world of Krynn has never really recovered. There are still many entertaining books in the series, don't get me wrong, but "The Dawning of a New Age" is a book that should never have left the clutches of Weis and Hickman. Jean Rabe clearly struggles to make sense of the huge plot changes made in "Dragons of Summer Flame" (a brief return to former glories). The characters are badly underveloped and one can hardly imagine a "Meetings Sextext" series being developed for these characters. The plot is desperatley lacking in any ideas and the book is too quick in finding answers to how magic was suddenly re-discovered. Palin is the only character with any sort of depth to them, and thats a character who came from older books. Wheres the characters like Tanis and Raistlin i ask? The only good things are the fight scenes, but even these are un-realistic. Dhamon is able to take on about 10 Knights of Takhisis at once but the energy of the telling is endearing. Steer well clear of this cliched rubbish and get the new Weis and Hickman book which should be considered as the real follow up to "Dragons of Summer Flame". Hopefully the glory of Dragonlance will return with this book. Why did Weis and Hickman ever give such an important book over to any one else? Its spectacuarly awful!

The Dawning of a New Age
By D. Pachal
Come on people..Think what Rabe had to do here. She had to dive into a Dragonlance world that had never been written about. One that was a suprise to most Dragonlance readers, but still, this had to happen sometime. This book is a great addition to the Dragonlance world. Not only does it have enough action and adventure to keep it exciting, but the story that goes with it is interesting to say the least.
Jean's characters are a little shallow, but what can you expect? This is a trilogy, there is a lot more time to expand on the little things that drive the characters. Keep in mind that Rabe had to start this new age and lead the pack into the new sets of books that were bound to follow them. Her destroying the Tower of High Sorcery in Palthanas was needed to move the story forward. It might be a spot that Dragonlance readers have been reading about since the start of their Dragonlance experience, but still...it was needed.
All in all this book is an enjoying read. Rabe's writing style is a little difficult to get used to, but it is still enjoying enough to keep turning the pages of the book. This book keeps on the legacy of Dragonlance and while it was difficult for Rabe to start a world from almost scratch, she has my respect for turning it into something that could be worked with.
