Another great reprint

The 2nd edition DMG was the least useful of the main core rule books during the 2nd edition years. It was largely a repeat of material found in the Player's Handbook. It didn't help that it was replacing the classic 1st edition DMG largely regarded as "the greatest RPG book ever" by many fans. That being said I was looking forward to this book the least out of the new reprints.
Like the other two 2nd edition reprints this book is well down by WOTC. It would worth picking up if your old copy is falling apart. An important note is that they used the 1995 revised "black book" 2nd edition rule books for this reprint. I would have preferred the 1989 cover and interior art to the 95 version. That is my only real complaint.
I will say that the DMG official errata was not incorporated into this reprint. It only effects one table but they ( for some reason) didn't update it. It is the item saving throw table and the corrections can be found at Wizards website or over on dragonsfoot. It doesn't really detract from the usefulness of the book and easy to fix.
The book is made to look like a "fake leather" cover in green. It has gold lettering and some embossed areas. It looks similar to the 1st edition reprints from last year.
The binding is excellent and will probably last through years of game use. The fly leaves are golden brown and are a vast improvement over the ugly ads that were in the original printings. The text and pictures are very crisp with no blurring or loss of detail found in the 1st edition reprints. The paper is a nice thick stock and feels "more expensive" than the original (mine have yellowed and the paper feels cheap, TSR of the 90s!).
All in all I would recommend the reprint to someone looking to replace and older copy that has seen better days or someone that just wants a nice set of upgraded books to use during sessions. It is great to see 2nd edition back in print.

2d Edition Excellent Choice

This is a core book for 2nd Edition Dungeons and Dragons. There are many options for playing Dungeons & Dragons; I've played 1st, 2nd, 3, 3.5 (yes can you believe they did that?), 4, and Pathfinder. (Yes, now 5th is out.)
So, here's what I like about 2nd, it doesn't change anymore, there are many worlds, adventures, player handbooks and options, most books are available used, it's a cleaner version of the game than 1st Edition and some are available new, like this reprint.
I like the reprint because it's bound better and it's exactly the last version of 2nd edition.
Pick 2nd Edition for your group and stay with it. You will be glad you did.

Return to the '90s!

So many other reviews that I can't add a great deal. The quality of the reprint is excellent and is better than the original. This allows me to retire my original '89 & '95 2e books and still have brand new copies.
